What is a PTE mock test and what's inside one?

A PTE mock test is a complete rehearsal of the test you have booked. Work through Speaking & Writing first, followed by Reading and Listening, with the task types and section timers for Academic or Core. A full mock shows whether you can keep your pace and concentration across the whole exam, including the final listening questions, instead of judging your readiness from a few familiar practice items.

Both exams assess four skills in three parts. Their task types and time ranges differ, so choose your exam before you start.

PartAcademicCoreTask types (A / C)
Speaking & Writing76–84 minutes50–65 minutes9 / 7
Reading23–30 minutes27–37 minutes5 / 5
Listening31–39 minutes22–37 minutes8 / 7

Academic includes 22 task types and Core includes 19. Some tasks assess more than one skill. Review the Academic test format or Core test format before your first full mock.

How many PTE mock tests does LexiPTE have?

Explore the mock tests listed above and choose Academic or Core to match your real exam. Each card lets you choose a full rehearsal or an individual section.

Use a different mock for each progress check. Keep a record of your first attempt, the questions you missed and the feedback you acted on. Repeating a familiar test can help you learn, but a higher score on memorised questions does not show the same progress as a higher score on an unseen mock. Save several tests for fresh, timed rehearsals near your exam date.

Is there a free PTE mock test?

You can browse Exam 1 for free. An active Pro membership is required to take a timed mock test. You can also practise the free questions in each task category before choosing a plan.

Start with the free question bank to learn each task type. Practise Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking separately, review your mistakes, then use a full mock when you are ready to rehearse the exam from beginning to end.

What does a PTE practice question look like?

Here is a short Multiple Choice, Single Answer example. Read the passage, select one option and check whether your choice is supported by the text.

Passage extract: A community centre notice states that the pottery studio will be closed for renovations from March 3 to March 17. Registered members can use the partner studio on Elm Street at no extra cost during that period.

Question: What can registered members do while the pottery studio is closed?

A. Get a refund for the closed period
B. Use the Elm Street studio for free
C. Book private renovation tours
D. Nothing until March 17

Answer: B. The notice gives registered members access to the Elm Street studio at no extra cost. It does not offer a refund, a renovation tour or a complete suspension of access. Select the option supported by the passage, even if another option sounds plausible.

PTE includes more than multiple choice. You will also fill gaps, reorder paragraphs, summarise information, speak and write. Objective items show an answer key and raw points after completion. Speaking and Writing responses are saved without an automated score. Your official PTE result comes from Pearson.

How is a PTE mock test scored, and what target should I set?

PTE reports an overall score and four skill scores on a 10–90 scale. The overall score is not the average of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Some tasks assess more than one skill, and scoring may award partial credit. LexiPTE shows raw points for objective questions. These points are not converted to the official PTE scale.

After a mock, review the questions you missed and your pacing. Use an official Pearson scored practice test when you need an estimate on the PTE scale. Raw points from a LexiPTE mock cannot confirm admission or visa eligibility.

PTE Core: set your CLB target

For Canadian Express Entry, choose PTE Core and convert each skill score to CLB using the IRCC table. CLB is a Canadian benchmark, not the PTE score scale. These are minimum scores for three benchmarks; your programme determines which one you need:

Your goalPTE Core minimumsSource
CLB 7L 60 · R 60 · W 69 · S 68IRCC
CLB 9L 82 · R 78 · W 88 · S 84IRCC
CLB 10L 89 · R 88 · W 90 · S 89IRCC

Your required CLB level depends on the immigration programme. A strong overall score does not compensate for a skill below its required threshold. Set a target for each skill, then check Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking separately after every mock.

How should I use mock tests to prepare?

Take a full timed mock first and save it as your baseline. Review missed Reading and Listening answers and compare your reasoning with the explanation. For Speaking and Writing, review your saved response and choose one concrete change for your next attempt, such as fewer pauses, accurate sentence structure or a complete summary of the main points.

Use the question bank to practise that weakness, then take a different mock under the same conditions. Complete at least two or three uninterrupted rehearsals before test day. Record both your scores and your pacing: repeated time-outs or rushed final answers are useful signals even when objective accuracy improves.

Can I pause and resume a PTE practice test?

Your responses are saved as you move through the test. For an exam rehearsal, complete the test in one sitting without pausing, checking answers or replaying audio. Practice controls are not a promise of the same options in the official test.

Choose a full mock when you are ready for a timed rehearsal, or start with free PTE questions to learn the task formats first.
