PTE Score Requirements by Country

Governments that accept PTE for visa or immigration purposes each publish their own score requirements, and they do not share one formula. This hub links to a page per country, each built directly from that country's own immigration authority, with the score bands, the accepted PTE version, and how long a result stays valid. Information on this hub and its country pages is current as of 2026-09-26 (26 September 2026); always check the official page we link before relying on a number for a real application.

Why there is no single PTE requirement

Each government sets its own English language policy, its own accepted PTE version, and its own validity window, independently of the others. Australia's Department of Home Affairs, Canada's IRCC, New Zealand's Immigration New Zealand and the UK's Home Office each publish separate score tables, updated on their own schedule.

This means a score that meets one country's requirement will not automatically meet another's, even where the visa categories sound similar. Always check the requirement page for the specific country and programme you are applying to.

PTE Academic and PTE Core are not interchangeable across countries

Australia, New Zealand and the UK's immigration rules referenced on this hub are built around PTE Academic, or, for the UK, the PTE Academic UKVI and PTE Home versions specifically approved as Secure English Language Tests. Standard PTE Academic without the UKVI designation is not accepted for UK visa purposes.

Canada's IRCC accepts PTE Core, a separate test from PTE Academic, and converts it to the Canadian Language Benchmark rather than to an IELTS-style band. If you are applying to more than one country, check which PTE version each one accepts before you book a test.

How long a PTE result stays valid, by authority

Pearson's own Score Report is accessible to you for two years from your test date, after which you can no longer view or assign it. Separately, each immigration authority sets its own rule for how old a result can be when you actually apply.

IRCC requires a result under two years old both when you complete your Express Entry profile and when you submit your permanent residence application. New Zealand requires a result no more than two years old at the time you apply. The UK requires your SELT to have been awarded within two years of your application date. Australia's Home Affairs pages set a three-year window before your visa application, depending on the subclass, and separately allow pre-7-August-2025 results to remain usable until 6 August 2028 depending on the visa.
