Your PTE refund depends on the exact time remaining before the appointment: more than 14 full calendar days receives 100%, no more than 14 but more than 7 receives 50%, and exactly 7 days or fewer receives no refund. Check the booked date and time in myPTE, then keep the cancellation confirmation and payment record.
Current refund bands
Pearson's policy, updated 27 August 2026, states:
- Cancel more than 14 full calendar days before the test for a full refund.
- Cancel no more than 14 and more than 7 full calendar days before the test for a 50 per cent refund.
- Cancel with 7 calendar days or fewer remaining for no refund.
These boundaries are easy to misread. Exactly 14 days does not meet the "more than 14" condition. Exactly 7 days belongs to the no-refund band.
At 14 days or less, you also cannot use the normal Reschedule button. If you need another appointment, cancel first and make a new booking at the price then displayed. See how PTE rescheduling works.
Worked example: calculate the decision, not a guessed fee
Suppose Priya paid a fictional fee of F and checks her booking with 10 full calendar days remaining. This is between 14 and 7 days, so the policy provides a 50 per cent refund.
If she cancels, she receives 0.5 × F back and loses 0.5 × F. A replacement appointment is a separate purchase at its live price. If that new price is also F, her net test payments across both bookings equal 1.5 × F.
The example uses a variable because Pearson's fees vary by country and booking. Check the current amount in the official booking flow rather than relying on an undated article.
How to cancel carefully
Sign in to the account that holds the booking and open the appointment. Before confirming cancellation:
- Check the test date and local time.
- Confirm the refund band against the official policy.
- Save the original payment record.
- Read the final amount shown in the cancellation flow.
- Save the cancellation email or dashboard confirmation.
If you booked through an authorised agent, do not assume the agent's service charge follows Pearson's test-fee policy. Ask for written terms for any separate charge.
Medical and family emergencies
Pearson may, at its discretion, allow a free reschedule for illness or a family emergency. Its current policy says to submit the linked Request Emergency Reschedule form with evidence as soon as you become aware of the emergency. It describes the request period as starting within the 14-full-calendar-day period before the appointment and ending no later than 72 hours after it. Approval is not automatic.
If Pearson cancels or reschedules the test, it says it will arrange a refund or an alternative date or centre. Keep every message and verify any new appointment in myPTE.
