How to Book PTE in 2026: Official Step-by-Step Guide

Book through myPTE, choose the correct test, match your ID exactly and check the centre, live fee and cancellation terms before paying.

A safe PTE booking starts before you choose a date. Confirm which exam your university, government or professional body accepts, then copy your personal details from the ID you will present on test day. Book through Pearson PTE or an authorised agent, not a lookalike portal.

Take a pre-payment snapshot

Before checkout, write down the exact test name, receiving body, required score, test centre, appointment time, live total and cancellation deadline. Compare the name, date of birth, citizenship and gender in myPTE with the physical ID you will present. This two-minute check catches the most expensive booking errors: selecting Academic instead of Core, using a nickname, choosing the wrong country or centre, and relying on a date that leaves no retake buffer.

1. Choose Academic or Core

PTE Academic and PTE Core are different tests for different purposes. PTE Academic is commonly used for academic admission and Australian visa evidence. PTE Core is designed for Canadian immigration purposes. The receiving authority's current page controls, so keep its wording open while booking.

Do not select a test because its name sounds close to your goal. Check the exact product name, including whether you need PTE Academic UKVI for a United Kingdom route. If your purpose is an Australian visa, verify the accepted test and score on the relevant Home Affairs visa page first.

2. Create or access one myPTE account

Follow Pearson's booking link and sign in or create an account. Pearson says candidates should not create more than one myPTE account; duplicate accounts need to be merged before booking. Pearson's booking help says candidates under 18 need parent or guardian consent. That page does not state a general minimum age for Academic or Core, so a younger candidate should confirm eligibility with Pearson before making plans (Pearson booking help).

Use an email address you can access. Score notifications and booking information are connected to the account.

3. Match your identity document exactly

Pearson's general ID policy says a valid passport should be used for all PTE tests. The same physical ID selected at booking must be presented, and the booking name, date of birth, citizenship and gender must exactly match it. Digital copies and photocopies are not accepted under the general policy. If testing outside your country of citizenship, PTE Academic candidates must use a valid passport (Pearson identification policy).

Read the country and test-specific sections too. If your passport is being renewed or replaced, Pearson says to wait until it arrives before booking. A mismatch can mean being refused entry and losing the test fee.

4. Select country, centre and date

Choose the country where you will physically take the test. Compare centres by travel time as well as appointment availability. Leave enough time for preparation, passport validity and any application deadline.

If testing in Australia, Pearson says the payment should be in Australian dollars. At checkout, inspect the exam name, centre address, local date and time, currency and final total.

5. Read change and refund terms

Under Pearson's current policy, changes are easiest more than 14 full calendar days before the test. With 14 days or fewer remaining, normal rescheduling is unavailable; cancellation refund levels depend on the remaining time. Read the current policy before paying rather than assuming every booking can be moved freely.

Worked example: catch the mismatch

Fictional candidate Aisha prepares this booking summary:

  • Required exam: PTE Academic
  • Passport name: AISHA NOOR KHAN
  • myPTE name: AISHA N. KHAN
  • Date of birth: matches
  • Country and centre: Sydney, Australia
  • Currency: AUD

The problem is the account name. Initialising "Noor" does not exactly match the passport. Aisha should stop before payment and use Pearson's Customer Support route to correct her details. Pearson says to select the account issue and personal-details option and submit it at least three working days before the test. That lead time applies to this name-correction process; resolving it before booking is safer where possible.

After correction, she checks the exam name, full centre address, date, time, price and passport expiry, then saves the confirmation.

Confirmation checklist

After payment:

  • open the confirmation and verify every booking detail
  • save the booking reference and centre address
  • note arrival instructions and the physical ID required
  • add the cancellation deadline to your calendar
  • revisit the confirmation if you update personal details

Treat messages offering a much lower fee, a guaranteed score or a score report without sitting the test as warning signs. Pearson identifies these as common signs of booking fraud.

Before choosing a tight date, sample current tasks in the PTE practice question hub and allow a realistic preparation window.
